World Series Final Game Draws 51 Million Audience Members In the United States, Canadian and Japan Regions.

The exciting 11-inning matchup where the Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays by one run attracted a combined 51M spectators across the US, Canadian, and Japanese territories. Major League Baseball stated this represents the highest-rated World Series finale after the 1991 contest featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s memorable game secured over 27 million audience members on Fox Sports networks, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated program of the week.

It also stands as the most-watched Fall Classic game after the 2017 edition final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew over 29 million. This marks a 16% increase compared to the last finale featuring the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 placed 4th, the fourth game was 7th, the fifth game came in eighth, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth place.

International Audience Figures

In the Canadian market, the game averaged 11.6M watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports. This made it the most-watched English-language broadcast in Canada since the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it drew 12M. This followed last Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – recorded over 13 million spectators, making it the most-watched World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Totals and Trends

The entire seven-game series recorded over 15.7 million viewers on the Fox network, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has recorded viewership increases for two straight seasons.

Including the Game 1 telecast on the Univision network, the total American average was over 16 million. The overall Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels drew 8.09 million watchers, an 8% increase over the previous year and the network’s strongest playoff performance after 2017.

Major League Baseball reported that the World Series was televised in 203 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in sixteen various languages.
