Ten individuals convicted of cyber-bullying directed at Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has convicted ten people for perpetrating the cyber-bullying of Brigitte Macron, the wife of France's leader, Emmanuel Macron.
The accused individuals faced accusations of disseminating untruths regarding her sex and sexuality, in addition to posting defamatory statements about the pair's age disparity of 24 years.
The court issued conditional custodial sentences of a maximum of eight months to the convicted individuals. The full ruling has not yet been published.
A longstanding conspiracy theory claiming that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman has been in circulation since her husband's initial election in 2017.
This latest legal outcome in France comes as the Macrons pursuing a libel case in the United States of America against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has likewise promoted comparable unfounded claims about the French president's wife's biological sex.
Their complaint states that Owens brushed aside substantial counter-evidence contradicting her allegations opting to platforming known conspiracy theorists.
Owens has often echoed these assertions on her podcast and online platforms, and in March 2024 stated that she would stake her entire professional reputation on her conviction that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.
Brigitte Macron first met her current spouse when she worked as an educator at his lycée.
The pair tied the knot in 2007, when the man who would become president was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
