2K Brings Onboard Popular Battle Royale Producer to Revitalize Troubled Hero Shooter Project Ethos
2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to lead the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently developing the forthcoming over-the-shoulder roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.
Management Shift Follows Mixed Response
The new appointee steps into the role of studio head at 31st Union following the dismissal of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' disappointing initial reveal last fall.
Recently, 2K president a key figure informed staff about this strategic move through an official communication, which stressed that playtesting had revealed the requirement for a clearer game identity.
Ismailer expressed that the team is now reimagining the project with a refreshed vision, aiming to better meet gamer demands.
A Pattern of Strategic Acquisitions
The news echoes a similar step taken by 2K Games in August, when they hired Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to work on the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.
Here is the entire content from Ismailer's memo:
Hello Everyone—
I know you all just finished your gathering - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the recent updates. Last time I shared you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most driven and innovative designers we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re eager for that collaboration to persist.”
With your dedication and adaptability, particularly over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.
The player input from last fall’s the game testing phase was enlightening. It affirmed the appeal of a action-packed game but indicated we still had refinements needed. It revealed the necessity for a clearer vision.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve progressed. You embraced the input to heart and overhauled Project ETHOS with a refreshed vision - one that’s positioned to fulfill its ambition to our fans.
Our confidence in this project strengthens every day. To further the outstanding advancement you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce Ben Brinkman as the new Studio Head of 31st Union. After several months of discussions, he officially joins us on the specified date.
His guidance and expertise in the competitive gaming space is vast, having spent the past decade and a half creating and overseeing some of the most popular franchises in gaming, such as the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, Apex Legends.
I invite you all in welcoming Ben soon. We are all looking forward to keep witnessing the development of Project ETHOS in the time to come.
The President
Experience of the New Head
Brinkman presently serves in the role of senior developer and head of production at the renowned studio for Apex Legends. He earlier was employed at major gaming companies in multiple development positions on the Call of Duty games, and, earlier in his career, had periods at other industry leaders.
Title Information and Concept
The upcoming game was announced in last year in conjunction with a early access event. At the time, the developers described the game as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person roguelike hero shooter and an innovative step forward on the style."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Customize your character in live gameplay to match your preferred approach," the description explains. "Challenge the opponents with unique powers, stakes, and challenges that evolve every match. Will you withdraw carefully with your valuable rewards? Alternatively go big, gamble everything, and hope your squad can achieve the highest spot? The choice is in your hands."
The game lacks an announced release date or platforms, but enthusiasts can look forward to further news as production continues.
